In the past I made some bad experiences controlling excel using office automation (it is working on your dev machine, but if you distribute it to some hundreds PC’s it is not running very stable [loading behavior of addins, terminating the excel process, timeouts, etc

Maybe this tool can solve at least some of the issues.
